Presenting ISA Interim Active Member: Slackline Slovakia

Slackline Slovakia is a newly created association founded in October 2021 based on a Facebook group (Community) that existed for 10 years.

One special thing Slackline Slovakia offers to their members is insurance. Members with a full membership automatically get enrolled in an “Extreme Sports and Alpine” insurance program that covers mountain rescue and so on.

A word from their president:

“We are the representative body for Slacklining in Slovakia, committed to
providing support and developing the slackline community.

We aim to protect land access rights for all forms of slacklining in Slovakia as
well as assist in access management for the slackline community,
encourage conservation, and foster safe practices in all forms of
slacklining through education and community development.

If you want to support the slackline community in Slovakia, prepare
lectures, help with the realization of various projects, if you want to
support our youth and slackline in schools, but also our city where
slackline can be trained, don’t hesitate and become our member.

The values of our association are the time spent together in a sport
that develops everyone in different disciplines.

We strive to promote the values of conservation and human health
throughout the community.

Our sport is not about who is better, but about who perceives how they
relate to slacklining, moving forward, encouraging, and developing a
sense of purpose.”

Slackline Slovakia joined the ISA as an Interim Active Member in November 2021.

2021 ISA Demographics Survey

The Demographics Survey is available in English/Spanish/French/Portuguese/Polish/German
and it should take you between 30-60 minutes to participate.
Sit down with enough time, motivation, good internet, and battery for a satisfying experience.
You can also skip the questions which don’t apply to you, no need to answer every single question.
We will raffle a TTTM hammock which you could win if you make the effort to fill it in

Our demographics survey aims to gather socio-scientific information about the global slacklining community, e.g. the demographics, skills and motivation of slackliners and compare it to a similar study from 2013 and data collected by the ISA in 2016 and 2018.

This is important, because it helps us talk to land managers, insurance companies, partners,
and other organizations about slacklining. Only with such data we can understand the slackline community and act in its interest!

The survey is pretty long but AWESOME. Please motivate your friends to take this survey and share it on your social media profiles.

The results will be published publicly and all data (anonymized) will be accessible for non-commercial slackline-related research.

Presenting ISA Active Member: UK Slackline Club

In many places around the United Kingdom big communities are slacklining in parks and many highline spots have been opened.

Founded in summer 2020 the UK Slackline Club is a new start to represent and promote the sport of slacklining in all forms around the county.

Their democratic association follows the structure of Sports England to get slacklining recognized as a
sport in the UK, to get access to training spots, and some sports funding in the future.
Recently the UKSC acquired insurance to help gain access to training spots for their members and to
officialize their so far informal slackline gatherings and festivals.

The UK Slackline Club joined the ISA as an Active Member in August 2020.

Presenting Step Slackliners Armenia

The goal of Step Slackliners Armenia is to develop slacklining as a sport in Armenia, where our balance activity is still misunderstood for tightrope walking by many. Regular free trainings in parks and also indoor trainings are organized and open for all to get the general public to try out slacklining. Most think slacklining to be an extreme sport and only fit for professionals.

Many outdoor and “extreme” sport groups and associations in Armenia are working together to solve access issues and to educate the public. As the slackline community is still small they have had a joined slackline/highline and climbing festival for several years.

 A small group of slackliners founded Step Slackliners Armenia already 8 years ago (2012) and they’ve joined the ISA as an Active Member in August 2020.

Slackline INDIA

The community started the association during a 3 day festival, called the Great Indian Highline Gathering, during which they also rigged one of the longest highlines in the country (700m). Their dream is it to spread the sport to different corners of the country, while setting standards for rigging, teaching safe practices and solving access issues.

The small community has opened quite a few lines in different places around the country including the Himalayas and is looking forward to the end of the pandemic to host their annual festivals and gatherings again with participants from different countries around the world. 

Slackline India joined the ISA in August 2020 as an active member.
