Slackline Finland is the main slackline association in Finland.

Their main goal is to improve the possibility to exercise different disciplines of slackline in a safe way and to make the sport more known in Finland. Special attention is also given to spreading knowledge of rigging and improving the safety of highline events. Currently, the association is organizing a permanent indoor training place that allows members to train all year around. 

The association was founded in 2016 and has since increased their activities and member count significantly every year. Currently the association counts 30 registered members. Nonethelss the community surrounding Slackline Finnland is much bigger. 

The Finish Slackline Association has been accepted as active member at the ISA General Assembly in August 2020.

New World Record in Switzerland!

Slackliners rig the longest hammock chain in the world – at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Sardona

Have you ever wondered what highliners do when they are not slacklining?
Sunday, the 23rd of June 2019, high above the ground with a mesmorizing view over the lower Segnesboden people are playing music, casually eating their lunch, doing acro and hanging from silks, All of this wouldn´t sound so unusual if there were actual slacklines involved. Instead, 4 very unslack, static cables and 26 hammocks paint the scene. These 26 hammocks rigged as a caravan along the cable lift are the foundation of what we can now call the longest hammock chain the world. To realize this project the Swiss Slackline Association partnered up with Ticket to the Moon and the Flims Laax Falera Management AG.

“It took a total of 12 hours non-stop installation and dismantling on the steel cables, 10 professional industrial climbers, 5 aerial artists, 5 hammock acrobats, 30 slackliners and outdoor lovers, as well as 26 hammocks to realize this project.”

Thus, it surpassed the previous record set in 2015 in the Italian Dolomites, with 26 people in 17 hammocks. Encouraged by the successful realization of this project, the organizer and rigging team is taking it even a step further. This week-end, on the 29th and 30th of June, 2019 a second record attempt made by the Swiss Slackline Federation. Aspiring to rig the longest slackline in Switzerland, athletes will have to cross an 800m long webbing situated 200m above the ground of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Tectonic Arena Sardona.
Will the crew be able to pull this off?

WORLD SLACKLINE MASTERS 2019

At the World Slackline Masters 2019 the slacklining elite came together in Stuttgart, Germany, to crown their World Champion in Tricklining. Starting the first of June, some of the best Slackliners from all around the globe competed against each other in three different disciplines. They performed stunning acrobatic perfomances in the remarkable dynamic discipline „Trickline“ where the slackline itself works as a kind of trampoline. Further disciplines were „Speedlining“ where the slackliner wins who crosses the 15m slackline most rapidly and „Jiblining“ where athletes dance on the slackline and perform tricks to music and are rated according to creativity, rhytm and degree of difficulty. The contest has been recorded in the ISA Slackline World Ranking List, showing their ranks and collected points.

Congratulations to Abraham Hernandez (Chile) in defending his title, and Randley Freitas (Brazil) for surging to second place in the contest aswell as in the ISA ranking list.

The ISA is very excited to be an offical partner of the Event. Our representatives were reporting life from behind the scenes on our social media channels.

Why create a Slackline World Ranking List?

The International Slackline Association recognizes and supports numerous facets of slackline practice. Education, artistry, performance and of course the lifestyle itself – that is, the Slacklife – are integral parts of the unique world that revolves around the seemingly simple act of balancing on webbing.

Each of these dimensions of slackline are part of the same global movement. Therefore, it is our aim to embrace and nurture each and every one of them. This goal has recently led us to create an international ranking list for slackline athletes.

The creation of this ranking list comes as a result of years of rapid growth in the sport side of slacklining. Although we initially felt quite resistant to formalizing the sport aspect in this way, after conducting demographic surveys and communicating with tons of contest organizers and athletes 

– this is what we realized:

  • The results of our worldwide demographic survey show that a majority of slackliners would like slacklining to be recognized as an official sport, either globally, or in their country of residence. Furthermore, by researching the histories of other sports, we’ve learned that once a sport becomes officially recognized by a governing entity,  athletes and organizers can enjoy significant access to funding, for projects, public events, competitions and more. At this stage, our surveys indicate that the ranking list could benefit up to 300 slackline athletes worldwide, about 70% of which are currently trickliners.
  • The ranking list and the official recognition it brings will benefit more than just the athletes who rank on it. This development will also support slackline communities as a whole by empowering event and contest organizers, including the slackers in our member federations, associations and clubs. We believe that the ranking list will make it easier for community organizers to receive sports funding and other sponsorship for slackline events, performances and competitions, which should help whole communities accomplish beautiful things.
  • Recognizing slacklining as an official sport also helps to reduce access issues and other conflict with government agencies or land management stakeholders. By helping to legitimize the practice of slacklining through its sport and performance facets, the ISA hopes to validate all aspects of slacklining in the eyes of land management agencies, landowners, insurance providers and other members of the public. In this way, we believe that the ranking list is a step towards creating a sustainable future for slacklining worldwide.
  • The past has shown that if slackliners don’t do this, someone else will. It has happened in other sports – once the recognition and profitability of the discipline grows, a business entity or another outside group steps in and forms an organization to shape the sport in a way that maximizes profit and does not necessarily benefit the athletes (see for example what occurred in the freerunning/parkour world). By proactively creating a Sports Commission and a ranking list from within the slackline community, we are ensuring that the future of slackline is protected from third-party interests.
